Recipes
Building your own recipes is a fun way to expand your brewing horizons, and identify your favorite flavors. However, if you want to clone a commercial brew or make a certain style you can stick to a pre-formulated recipe. The Home Brew Shop has many recipes to reproduce your favorite styles. In addition, many brewers have been kind enough to share their own recipes!
John Dear Lawnmower Beer:
5.5 lbs. Light Malt Extract
1/2 lb. Vienna Malt
1 oz. Cascade Hops (boiling, 60 min.), 1 oz. Cascade hops (finishing, last 10 min.)
1 tsp Gypsum, 1 tsp. sea salt, 1 tsp. Irish Moss
1-2 packs of dry ale or lager yeast
Prime with 3/4 – 1 cup of corn sugar.
The Home Brew Shop Special:
7 lbs. Scottish Tartan Red Malt Extract
1 lb. Special B Malt, 1/2 lb. 60L Caramel Malt
1 oz. Willamette Hops (boiling, 60 min.), 1 oz. Willamette hops (flavoring, 30 min.), 1 oz. Mt. Hood hops (finishing, last 10 min.)
1 tsp Gypsum, 1 tsp. sea salt, 1 tsp. Irish Moss
Wyeast #2206 Bavarian Lager or #2007 Pilsener yeast
Prime with 3/4 cup of corn sugar.
Bacchus Pilsener:
6 lbs. Light Malt Extract
1/2 lb. Vienna Malt, 1/2 lb. Toasted Malt
1 oz. Cascade Hops (boiling, 60 min.), 1/2 oz. Saaz hops (finishing, last 10 min.)
1 tsp Gypsum, 1 tsp. sea salt, 1 tsp. Irish Moss
Wyeast #2206 Bavarian Lager or #2007 Pilsener yeast
Prime with 3/4 cup of corn sugar.
Hey Porter:
6 lbs. Dark Malt Extract, 2 lbs. Light Dry Malt Extract, l lb. Honey
1 lb. Chocolate Malt, 1/4 lb. Black Barley
2 oz. Northern Brewer Hops (boiling, 60 min.), 1/2 oz. Cascade hops (finishing, last 10 min.)
1 tsp. Irish Moss
Wyeast #1028 London Ale yeast
Prime with 3/4 cup of corn sugar.
S Team beer:
6 lbs. Light Malt Extract
1/2 lb. 20L Caramel malt, 1/2 lb. Light German Crystal Malt, 1/4 lb. Toasted Malt
2 oz. Northern Brewer Hops (boiling, 60 min.), 1 oz. Northern Brewer hops (finishing, last 10 min.)
1 tsp. sea salt, 1 tsp. Irish Moss
Wyeast #2112 California Lager yeast
Prime with 3/4 cup of corn sugar.
Stout:
6 lbs. Dark Malt Extract, 2 lbs. Amber Malt Extract
1 lb. Munich Malt, 1 lb. 60L Caramel Malt, 1/4 lb. Toasted Malt, 1/2 lb. Roasted Barley, 1/2 lb. Chocolate Malt, 1/2 lb. Black Patent
2 oz. Chinook hops (boiling, 60 min.), 1/2 oz. Cascade hops (flavoring, 30 min.), 1/2 oz. Cascade hops (finishing, last 10 min.)
1 tsp. Irish Moss
Wyeast #1056 American Ale or #1084 Irish Ale yeast
Prime with 3/4 cup of corn sugar.
